Grown on the historic terraces of this VDP Grosse Lage. Tall, dark-green screwcapped bottle. Just the ticket for a jaded post-Christmas palate, with or without food. That pungent minerally nose that characterises the wines of this lower-Mosel producer. There is real fruit here and super tingle on the end. Not as extreme as some earlier vintages. Complete already. Bone-dry finish comes to a rather sudden end but otherwise this is just up my Strasse . (JR)

The nose of the 2018 Uhlen Roth Lay GG gets me immediately due to its pure, crystalline and flinty/stony and later floral character that drags me into the glass. The wine is fresh and nervy, seriously structured and piquant with a tight, concentrated, very persistent and stimulatingly salty finish. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.
Slated for bottling in March 2020, from cask this offers scents and succulence of apple, quince and honeydew melon, wreathed in fennel and basil. A silken texture adds allure, and for all of its ripe fruit dominance, the resonantly and lusciously lingering finish preserves the cooling green herbal cast and displays glowing fruit seed piquancy as well as admirable transparency to a strikingly and intriguingly diverse range of mineral nuances of stony, alkaline, saline and ore-like nature.
