The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is beguiling on the nose with perfumed red cherries, bergamot, crushed stone and assiduous use of oak that is a little more prominent than Bruno Clair's CSJ, yet simpatico with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite spicy with a vibrant, multi-faceted finish. I admire the crescendo of this Clos Saint-Jacques. It demonstrates impressive persistence on the aftertaste. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

I continue to just love these 2018 Red Burgundies, and the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques doesn't disappoint, offering an incredibly pure, focused, yet concentrated style carrying ample bright berry fruits, spring flowers, spice, and graphite-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a terrific spine of acidity, ripe, yet ultra-fine tannins, and just about flawless balance. It shows the ripe style of the vintage yet is pure, fresh, and focused. Enjoy bottles any time over the coming 20 years or more.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) has turned out very well indeed, unfurling in the glass with aromas of wild berries and plums, complemented by hints of peony, orange rind, warm spices and a classy patina of new oak. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and vibrant, it's impressively lively in this inherently rich vintage, with a succulent and enveloping core of fruit, beautifully refined tannins and a penetrating finish.
