Tasting notes
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of orchard fruit and touches of white flowers; a crushed stone note develops almost reluctantly with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. This is harmonious, focused and mineral-driven, the finish composed and elegant yet reassuringly persistent. A Puligny Premier Cru from the top drawer. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a superb bouquet, strict at first, then revealing linseed and slightly oily/wax resin aromas; slate-like aromas follow with aeration. The palate is taut, fresh and very saline, displaying a touch of spice toward the bitter lemon finish. This gets the saliva flowing! Excellent.
There’s plenty of bright fruit combined with a light mealy richness, or at least the expectation of richness. Expectation fulfilled: the rounded texture in harmony with the bright lemon fruit. (JH)
