Deep ruby. Heady, mineral-laced red and blue fruit aromas are complicated by suggestions of Asian spices and potpourri. Sweet, penetrating and concentrated, offering sappy, palate-staining black raspberry and boysenberry flavors that deepen on the back half. Smoothly marries power to elegance and finishes very long and minerally, with fine-grained tannins adding shape and gentle grip.

The 2014 Moulin a Vent le Clos du Moulin comes from 70-year-old vines, fully destemmed as usual and aged in oak barrel (10% new) for 12 months. It has quite an intense bouquet with dark cherries, soy and light saline scents. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe black cherry and raspberry fruit, well judged acidity and a clean and precise finish that just needs a little more personality to shine through.
0.2 ha monopole. Destemmed, aged in oak but almost no new. Really dark colour. There’s a hint of oak on the nose here or the fruit has sweeter spice notes. Ripe and dark-fruited, just a little reduced at the moment but you cannot get away from that lovely minerality and a savoury dimension. Firm, dry, long and with the finest of tannins and real persistence. (JH)
