Tasting notes
The 2012 Barbaresco Gaiun offers lovely up-front, intensity and fruit. As always, the Gaiun has an immediacy to it that is quite pleasing and also distinctive. Sweet red cherry, chalk, spice and white pepper take on an extra degree of volume through aging in French oak, which also softens some of the young Nebbiolo contours. The 2012 finishes with lovely class, nuance and polish. This is another strong effort from Marchesi di Grésy.

The beautiful 2012 Barbaresco Gaiun Martinenga reveals a level of grace and elegance that is not easy to find in this warm vintage. Delicate notes of wild berry and lavender flower emerge from the bouquet. They are quickly followed by slightly more robust tones of dark fruit, blackberry, balsam herb and tobacco. At the very back are ethereal notes of licorice and cola.
