Score 92/100 · Drink 2019-2042, David Schildknecht, Vinous, Oct 2019

Despite harvest at 90 Oechsle, there are decidedly Sauvignon-like traits here. Passion fruit and cassis mingle with lime, grapefruit and white peach on a powerfully scented nose and a luscious, glossy palate. There is a wonderful sense of fruit purity throughout, and a vibrantly tangy, infectiously and almost endlessly juicy finish. The acids here not only tame the wine’s 84 grams of residual sugar but generate genuine refreshment.

Seems shy at first but then slowly releases seductive aromas of passion fruit and ripe gooseberries, even a hint of honey. The flavour is truly generous; passion fruit, sweet peach, ripe gooseberry and even more tropical notes of pineapple put together a marvelous display of fruit, with a richness bordering on Auslese, but kept in check by assertive acidity. A taste of honey is delivered with the deftest of lemony touches, and lovers of lime marmalade will feel well served by this delicious concoction. (MS)
