(made from purchased grapes; 2013 was the first vintage for this bottling): Pale yellow. Bright, subtle perfume of pear and white flowers. Then surprisingly silky and ripe in the mouth, with an element of body that may come from the reddish soil here. But not at all heavy thanks to the lively acidity of the 2014 vintage. Finishes with good backbone and a youthful edginess.

The 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embazées, which was bottled after 11 months in oak, has a beautiful nose with citrus lemon, shaved almond and a touch of nutmeg -- pleasing complexity and nuance here. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with bitter lemon and orange rind, good depth and a slightly austere but compelling, Puligny-like finish. Another great white from Drouhin.
11 months in oak. Cedary citrus aroma with a touch of quince and clementine freshness. Firm and deep in texture. A slight pear-grain grip to balance that leesy texture and so fresh. Sustained and harmonious. (JH)
About the producer
Joseph Drouhin is one of the largest and most famous producers in Burgundy, making both domaine and négociant wines. It remains family-owned and run, now in the hands of the fourth generation.
