Score 92/100 · Drink 2016-2026, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Jun 2016

Lots of cassis, dark cherry and black chocolate aromas dominate the dark and spicy, graphite nose of the 2011 Fellbacher Lämmler Lemberger Bergmandel GG, which indicates a stunning purity and elegance. Silky and juicy on the palate, the intense and full-bodied 2011 is smooth, lush and ready to be drunk. The finish is long and aromatic (cassis!), revealing fine and ripe tannins. Compared to the still very young 2013 successor, the 2011 is smoother and gentler.

Deep shade of plum with purple rim. Inky and spicy on the nose, with some serious roasted and smoky notes. On the palate generous cherry fruit is exquisitely partnered by flavours of dark bitter chocolate and ginger spice, with cigar tobacco and inky tannins bringing up the substantial rear. A solid structure shows Aldinger’s conviction about the Bergmandel’s potential not only as a Lemberger Grosses Gewächs, but a serious top red contender altogether. (MS)
