Score 86-87/100 · Drink 2003, Pierre Rovani, Feb 1999

This firm began purchasing vineyards in 1990, and one of its first acquisitions was a parcel of Chassagne-Montrachet Abbaye de Morgeot. This earth, clay, flower, and spice-scented wine has an attractive medium body filled with pears, sea shells, and minerals. It lacks some concentration, complexity, and length but is delicious. Drink it over the next 4 years. Importer: Frederick Wildman & Sons, New York, NY; tel (212) 355-0700.

Fresh, pure aromas of apple, peach and marzipan. Very intensely flavored and penetrating, if still a bit hard-edged due to the remaining malic acidity. But quite elegantly styled, with a very firm structure that should support slow evolution in bottle. I would never have picked this wine as a '97.
