Tasting notes
The 2016 Supersónico, produced with Garnacha grown at high altitude, close to Calatayud, fermented in open vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in 456-liter oak barrels for six months. This is always produced with the grapes from the same vineyard, an unusual place, and the wine always has less color, more spices and herbs, with subtleness, complexity and elegance. The palate is medium-bodied, the tannins are very fine and the wine is lively and shows great freshness. This is a real bargain. If you want to buy only one wine from Frontonio, I'd recommend this one. 6,300 bottles were filled in February 2018.

2013 was the first vintage of this and the 2016 has just been launched. Some stems included for the very extended maceration (54 days in 2017). 465-litre François Frères barrels with an Hospices de Beaune connection apparently were used. This is undoubtedly a very fine wine that makes an impression in a line rather than a cloud, somehow. Very refined and polished with a sort of 'slatey' end. Super fresh. A fine modern Garnacha/Grenache. Not yet at its apogee. (JR)
