Cask sample. Attractive concentrated nose of ripe red fruit and oak, but also a little anonymous. Creamy cherry fruit with tangy bite, and very embryonic. Beautiful chewy tannins. Not a lot of varietal expression (yet). (WS)

I tasted this new wine from a bottle that had not yet been labeled, so I'm not sure if its name is final. The 2016 Clay pays homage to the unique silt and clay soils that define this wine growing area along the Tuscan Coast. Its taste profile fits the theme with earthy and elegantly dusty tones that permeate a savory core of red berry fruit. Although the bouquet is initially subdued, it does grow in width and intensity. This wine offers an impressive level of purity and clean simplicity.
A firm and chewy red with pepper, spice and berry character. Hints of nuts. Full body. Plenty of fruit. Six months in orcio (like amphora) then three in used barrels. New wine. Get it. 1,800 bottles made. Drink or hold. Made from organic grapes.
