Score 92/100 · Drink 2020-2030, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Apr 2019

The 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos is a bit more marked by its wood component than the other wines in the Simonnet-Febvre portfolio, with subtle scents of vanillin and spice inflecting its bouquet of ripe citrus and crisp peach. On the palate, it's full-bodied, broad-shouldered and textural, with the most power of all the wines in the range—and the most tight-knit profile too. This will merit a couple of years in the cellar.

Some very exotic fruit with ripe peaches, mangoes and melon, as well as notes of lemons, grapefruit and flinty minerals. The palate has a vibrant sleeve of acidity that creates attractive tension and density. A very powerful wine that needs time. Try from 2022.

Tank sample. Much richer on the nose than Les Preuses and Blanchot from the same producer. Honey and a strong suggestion of sweet oak. Almost bitter on the end thanks to a certain oiliness. This needs lots and lots of time. (JR)
