Tasting notes
Bright purple. Intense, mineral-accented aromas of black and blue fruits and cola, with a sexy floral topnote. Sappy, palate-staining blackberry and bitter cherry flavors show superb depth and energy, with a spine of juicy acidity adding lift and structure. Rich but lively, with excellent finishing clarity and slow-mounting tannins. For such a powerful wine there's a lithe character here, which I've come to expect from Balthazar's wines over the years.

Tasted in three components: #1: Slightly jammy, explosively perfumed aromas of black and blue fruits and kirsch . Expansive and sweet, with serious finishing punch. All fruit right now. #2: Smokier and spicier, with deep dark fruit aromas and flavors. Chewy tannins add grip to the sappy, clinging finish. #3: Hugely aromatic nose offers scents and flavors of candied dark berries, violet and exotic spices. Very long and focused, with strong allspice, floral and olive character on the finish. Looks to be a large-scaled wine for the vintage, and for Balthazar as well.
