Decadent lily and musky peony mingle headily with scents of jellied white peach and candied lime peel. This feels creamy and dense, but alcoholic levity and billowing inner-mouth perfume convey a sense of delicacy. Glazed pineapple and crystallized ginger serve for invigorating tang and cut to offset both the wine’s rich fruit and its liquid floral perfume on a prodigious and by no means overly sweet finish.

The 2017 Riesling Kinheimer Hubertuslay Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) is clear and concentrated, on the deep and complex nose with stewed peach aromas intertwined with spicy notes of a fleeting kiss of oak and nougat. It has a highly elegant, refined and salty-piquant palate with fine grip and mineral tension. This Hubertuslay is rich, lush and sweet, with remarkable concentration but also weightless finesse and a lean, salty-piquant finish that tickles the palate. Lemon chutney flavors intertwined with the crystalline salinity characterize the long finish of this beauty. Tasted at the domain in April 2019.
About the producer
Markus Molitor is now among the largest privately owned wine estates in the Mosel and also one of the best. With a focus on single-vineyard expressions, the estate produces between 80 and 90 different wines each vintage.
