Tasting notes
The 2010 Chardonnay Reserve is raised in Allier oak for 14 months, 10% housed in concrete eggs. It has very good intensity with notes of apple-blossom, popcorn and a touch of smoke. The palate is very harmonious with extremely well integrated oak, so much so that it is barely discernible. It builds to a glorious finish of orange zest, apricot and a tang of marmalade. This is a superb Chardonnay. Drink now-2020. I have been an admirer of Cape Chamonix, one of Franschhoek's finest estates, for several years and their most recent releases are thoughtfully crafted and full of personality. Quite sweet and leesy but finer than the average Cape Chardonnay. A very satisfying mouthful that ends with green fruit flavours. No hurry to drink this. (JR)
