A pretty bouquet of citrus blossom, Meyer lemon, crisp green pear and pastry cream introduces the 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières, a medium to full-bodied wine that's beautifully satiny and elegant, with excellent depth and dimension, a harmonious sense of completeness and bright balancing acids, concluding with a long and pure finish. This was the first of Leflaive's holdings to be picked in 2017.
Almost as high as Chevalier-Montrachet. Just above Clavaillon, about 10–15 m higher. Very stony and steep, very calcaire. Racked to tank just before the 2018 harvest. Still a fine note of pure lemon fruit but with more a chalky/mineral side than the Clavaillon. A flinty and smoky elegance. Tension and wonderful length, dry but bright with tangy fruit. Long, refined finish. (JH)
