Score 91/100 · Drink 2020-2030, Neal Martin, Aug 2018

The 2014 Director’s Reserve Red comes from the slopes of Simonsberg Mountain and was matured in 57% new French oak for 22 months. The bouquet is no shy thing, featuring abundant black cherries, briar, black pepper and touches of eucalyptus that become more pronounced with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening, quite juicy for a Cabernet Sauvignon thanks to the 18% contribution of the Merlot. This feels supple and lithe; touches of black plum and dried herbs emerge toward the finish. Fine.
