Score 93-96/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018
Bright, dark red-ruby. Explosive aromas of raspberry liqueur, red licorice, leather, warm soil and pungent minerality. Wonderfully spicy and penetrating but silky too, showing more inner-mouth perfume in the early going than the Chambertin. This very deep Clos de Bèze finishes with very suave tannins and outstanding spicy persistence. Jean Laurent finds this wine a bit less concentrated than the Chambertin but it strikes me as quite complete, even if it will need time to absorb its oak element.
