There are just 600 bottles of the 2016 Chablis Bougros Grand Cru aged in a 450-litre barrel where it matured for 18 months. Although this is a Grand Cru, to be honest I preferred some of Billaud’s Premier Crus on the nose that demonstrate more vigour. The palate is well balanced with good depth, quite back and just needing more precision and mineralité to develop on the finish. The jury is still out on this one.

The 2016 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros is also a great success for the vintage, offering up complex aromas of mandarin, lemon oil, crisp peach, green apple and oatmeal. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, glossy and textural, with a rich, layered profile but good balancing acids. It's already quite approachable.
Will be bottled Feb/March. Tank sample. Subtle cedar note over citrus and crushed herbs. Terrific concentration on the mid palate, the tense fruit clothed in creamy lees. Lovely depth and moreishly mouth-watering. (JH)

About the producer
Samuel Billaud started making wine under his own name in 2009, but he is one of the most experienced producers in Chablis, having made wine in the region since 1985.
