Tasting notes
The 2013 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva is another wine of true distinction. Powerful and ample, with tons of depth, the 2013 is impressive. Fresh dark cherry, spice, licorice and menthol notes abound in this vibrant, beautifully resonant Vino Nobile. The 2013 spent three years in cask and was vinified with the 'governo' method an ancient Tuscan technique where some of the grapes are air-dried after harvest (Amarone style) and added later to the fermenting must to give more texture and richness to the wine. The governo method was helpful during a time in which ripeness in the field was not always easy to achieve. That is rarely the case these days, and governo today is more a stylistic choice than anything else. In a word: superb!
