Score 92+/100 · Drink 2025-2034, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2018

(just 22 hectoliters per hectare produced): Bright lemon-yellow color. High-pitched aromas of citrus oils and crushed rock are wonderfully vibrant for the vintage if still a bit youthfully reduced. Dense but airy and light on its feet, with its citrus and menthol flavors enlivened by mineral energy. Very intense, fine-grained, high-altitude wine with terrific verve for the vintage. Really dances on the long finish but it would be at least a misdemeanor to open this now.

(21 hectoliters per hectare produced): Pale, bright yellow. Aromas of orange oil, mint, menthol and crushed stone. Juicy, intense citrus fruit flavors are complicated by saline minerality. Not yet especially complex but sharply delineated, dry and classic, finishing with excellent subtle length. Cournut uses about 35% new oak for most of his premier crus but more like 60% to 70% for this wine and the Dents de Chien.
