Score 90/100 · Drink 2022-2029, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2018

Aromas of lemon, crushed stone and smoky calcaire convey an almost Sauvignon-like pungency. At once dense and light on its feet, showing a silky texture but also terrific cut. This adamantly rocky, slightly dry-edged wine finishes lemony, saline and long, with a strong impression of energy. I was tempted to say that Cournut's Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru and Les Chenevottes displayed some hardness from the frost influence, but this wine is every bit as lemony and bracing and production here was normal in 2016.

(Cournut had a full yield here): Bright yellow. Aromas pf pineapple, lemon, mint and crushed rock; a bit less saline than usual for this wine. Rich and sweet but vibrant too, with distinctly high-pitched flavors of lemon and flowers for such a full 2016. An element of spicy oak adds complexity. This very broad, intense wine finishes slightly aggressive but with terrific fruit and noteworthy length.
