Tasting notes
Inky-purple. Captivating, broad brushstrokes of tar and licorice complicate aromas and flavors of dark plums, black cherry and cassis. Very clean, vibrant, dense Montepulciano d’Abruzzo that boasts lingering floral and mineral elements on the juicy finish. The best Italian release of Emidio Pepe’s Montepulciano d’Abruzzo in a long time (this wine is made from younger vines than the Old Vines selections available in the US). Really well done. (ID)

About the producer

Emidio Pepe is a star of the Abruzzo region and one of Italy’s most famous names. Worshipped by natural-wine lovers for its low-intervention approach, this estate makes category-defying, age-worthy examples of Montepulciano, Trebbiano and Cerasolo d’Abruzzo, as well as Pecorino Colli Aprutini.
