Made from vines planted in 1947 just outside the Marsannay appellation. Pale crimson. Lovely tension and fruit on the palate; this could only be red burgundy. Silky smooth but with a little very fine tannin still. Great personality. Light bonfire note. Lovely stuff. Quite long. But probably not a very long-term wine. VGV (JR)

The 2016 Bourgogne Chapitre Vieilles Vignes was reduced to around 20 hectoliters per hectare because of the mildew instead of the frost. It has a lifted, perfumed bouquet with dried rose petal scents filtering through the raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy opening, commendable depth, quite sensual in style with a long, quite voluminous finish. This cuvée always punches above its weight...the 2016 is no different.
