(aged entirely in French barriques , about 70% new): Good full medium red. Stunning Burgundian nose offers cherry, marzipan, minerals, mint and crushed stone. Wonderfully smooth and intense, with compelling inner-mouth perfume and terrific cut and penetration to the fruit and stone flavors. Offers an uncanny combination of silky texture and weightlessness. Broad, horizontal tannins spread over the entire palate on the very long, scented finish. Wonderful calcaire energy here. These 2007s are 15% alcohol but I never would have guessed it.

Castiglione Falletto. Intense ruby, still youthful looking. Lifted and sweetly pefumed. Massive, but ripe tannin and very concentrated sweet fruit. Monolithic, but lingering finish indicates there is more to come. (WS)

The 2007 Barolo Enrico VI, from the Villero vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, is an attractive, fleshy Barolo with good up front fruit backed up by firm tannins. The aromatic delineation and nuance typical of this vineyard is present, but slightly attenuated with respect to more typical years. Still, this is a gorgeous, flashy Barolo that captures the essence of the vintage.

Cordero di Montezemolo is one of the few estates where the 2006s are more interesting than the 2007s, with the exception of the entry-level Barolo Monfalleto.
