While I was not impressed with Truchot-Martin's other 1999s, the Clos de La Roche Vieilles Vignes, produced from vines over 40 years of age, is delicious. Harvested at 12% natural potential alcohol and bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is a ruby-colored wine with loads of sweet dark fruit aromas. Medium-bodied and candied, it is a plump, rich offering with copious quantities of juicy blackberries, cassis, cherries, and black raspberries. This enormously appealing, medium-bodied wine should be consumed over the next 8 years. Importer: Weygandt-Metzler, Peter Weygandt, Unionville, PA; tel. (610) 486-0800.
