The 2017 Le Clos du Beau-Pere pretty much blew me away, as it might be one of the few wines to surpass what was accomplished in 2015. Black cherries, cassis, graphite, licorice, white flowers, and spice all soar from this beauty, which is full-bodied, textured, and layered, with serious intensity and depth. This beauty has its foot planted firmly on the accelerator, yet its style is balanced and seamless. It's a rocking Pomerol!

The 2017 Le Clos du Beau-Père, Jean-Luc Thunévin’s micro Pomerol estate, was 70% affected by the frost, a parcel of vines protected by the new winery that Roland Laborde constructed a couple of years ago. Thunévin separated the first and second generation grapes to use only the former. It has a dense bouquet with layers of black cherry, cassis and boysenberry jam notes, very backward at the moment and compared to previous vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red and black fruit laced with a pinch of sea salt and cracked black pepper, nicely focused with an insistent grip towards the finish. This is a nicely proportioned Pomerol that should age with style, a success after all the efforts.

The 2017 Le Clos du Beau-Pere is deep garnet-purple in color with notions of warm plums, cassis and blueberry pie with touches of violets and tilled black soil. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm frame of chewy tannins and invigorating freshness, finishing on an earthy note. Apr 2018, www.robertparker.com
