Tasting notes
The 2017 Carignan Cuvée Prima is better on the nose than the regular cuvée, demonstrating more delineation and complexity, scents of black cherry and blackcurrant, a little cassis developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with toasty black fruit, a gentle grip in the mouth and an oaky but pleasant tarry finish. Fine.

Dark cherry red. Inviting, ripe, pure dark fruit with a lovely dusty quality. Firm, chewy and rich but finishes clean in the mouth, the tannins smooth and harmonious with the fruit and freshness. Tannins build on the finish. (JH)
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Carignan Prima delivers quite a lot of cedar over a cassis and black berry core with a waft of garrigue. Very firm and chewy, it has plenty of mid-palate fruit, with balanced freshness and very good length.
This is nicely layered with plenty of plum fruit intertwined between structured tannins and driven acidity. Rather chewy.
