Tasting notes
The 2017 Sérilhan has an attractive bouquet, predominantly red fruit - raspberry, cranberry and wild strawberry, flanked by cedar and sous-bois scents that become more “vocal” with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, fleshy red berry fruit. Perhaps it tails off towards the finish, the limitation of the growing season denying this Saint-Estèphe the same complexity as say, the 2019. Still, it has an easygoing nonchalance about it that I admire.

The 2017 Sérilhan is a wine of real class and distinction, not to mention a true standout in the appellation. Nuanced and creamy, the 2017 offers exceptional balance and tons of sheer appeal. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, licorice and spice all meld together in this very pretty and inviting Saint-Estèphe.
The 2017 Sérilhan has a lovely, quite opulent bouquet with pure black and red fruit infused with minerals and graphite, becoming more tertiary with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, a fine bead of acidity, well-integrated oak and a caressing, silky smooth finish. Excellent.
Deceptively medium in body, the 2017 Sérilhan packs plenty of punch. Ripe red cherry, smoke, leather, tobacco and grilled herbs add layers of savory nuance. This resonant, super-expressive Saint-Estèphe has quite a bit to offer, and could turn out to be a very pleasant surprise. Tasted two times.
