The 2017 Clos Marsalette is ripe, bold and juicy, with quite a bit of raciness and more overt ripeness than I remember seeing en primeur. At the same time, there is plenty of floral and savory lift from the Cabernets. Sweet red plum, mint, sage, tobacco and cedar are all laced together in this super-expressive, inviting, mid-weight Pessac-Léognan Graves from Stephan von Neipperg. This is such a pretty wine. Tasted two times.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Clos Marsalette gives up scents of stewed plums, baked black cherries and mulberries with touches of cassis, cigar box and pencil lead. Medium-bodied, the palate has a firm, chewy texture and plenty of earth-laced black fruit, finishing just a tad firm.

The 2017 Clos Marsalette has a well defined bouquet but it just lacks a bit of fruité . The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, quite austere with a rather dry finish. I usually enjoy this Pessac-Léognan however, I just think this is a rare miss.

The 2017 Clos Marsalette is solid, with plenty of ripe black cherries, dried herbs, cedar, and dried flowers on the nose. These carry to a medium-bodied, elegant wine that has good acidity, fine tannins, solid balance, and a clean, classy finish.
