The 2017 La Tour Carnet is supple, racy and wonderfully expressive. Dark red cherry, plum, blood orange, mint and spice add lovely shades of nuance to this delicious Haut-Médoc. Once again, Bernard Magrez's La Tour Carnet is one of the hidden gems of Bordeaux. Tasted two times.
The deep garnet-purple colored 2017 la Tour Carnet features Black Forest cake, blackcurrant cordial, earth and bouquet garni with wafts of lavender. The palate is medium-bodied, elegantly played, fresh and chewy with an herbal lift on the finish.
The 2017 La Tour Carnet is a significant step up from the Deuixème Vin. Attractive blackberry and black olive scents on the nose with a touch of melted tar, the palate is well balanced with grippy black fruit and a powerful tarry finish. There is a lot of wine here. It is a touch brawny in style but at least there is adequate freshness.
