Since frost ravaged the estate's Merlot, the 2017 Fourcas Hosten is fully 66% Cabernet Sauvignon. Exhibiting notes of sweet red berries, soil, rose petals and pencil shavings, it's medium-bodied, lively and fleshy, with supple tannins and a precise but somewhat ephemeral finish.

The 2017 Fourcas Hosten is admittedly a bit of a comedown after the high point of the previous vintage. This is much more introverted and earthy on the nose, missing the fruité of the 2016. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannins and modest depth, but as before, I still find the finish rather dry.
The 2017 Fourcas-Hosten has a slightly subdued bouquet at the moment despite rigorous swirling. The palate is medium-bodied with "furry" texture tannins, a little dry and rather earthy on the finish. It just lacks vim and vigor compared to other vintages.
