The 2017 Branas Grand Poujeaux has quite a high-toned and more ostentatious nose compared to previous bottles with exuberant blue and black cherry fruit, hints of mocha coming through with time. The palate is fleshy and ripe, velvety smooth with a caressing, texture. Pure red fruit laced with white pepper and clove, this gently fans out on the finish. This appears to be meliorating in bottle - one to watch. Tasted at the Branas Grand Poujeaux vertical at the château.

Tasted blind. Deep ruby. Pure cassis and blackcurrant. Good intense fruit – not the most complex but enticing. Plump black fruit in the middle, with soft tannins making for a forward style. A lovely, enjoyable, medium-weight wine. Juicy. Long and pure finish. (TP)

The. 2017 Branas Grand Poujeaux is heady and exotic in the glass, with tons of super-ripe dark fruit bold, luscious and super expressive in its dark red/purplish fruit, chocolate, spice, leather. I would prefer to drink it now and over the next handful of years, while the wine remains luscious and vinous. This is an especially bold, potent style, but it works well. Tasted two times.

The 2017 Branas Grand Poujeaux is composed of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps with cassis, blackberry preserves, redcurrant jelly and black pepper scents plus hints of fallen leaves and cumin seed. Medium-bodied, the muscular black fruit is supported by firm, chewy tannins, and it finishes on a savory note.
