Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Sérafin's 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes showed much better here than the bottle I tasted at the domaine back in February. It has a well-defined bouquet with plenty of fruit, dark plum and raspberry and floral tones that emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth, sappy and quite long with a spicy finish. This is a very competent Morey-Saint-Denis, and returning after 15 to 20 minutes, it continues to improve, gaining cohesion and purity. I would still afford it another 3-4 years in bottle. Bright dark red. A bit more stunted than the last couple of wines, hinting at dark berries, licorice and coffee on the nose. Juicy, penetrating and dry; this rather hermetic wine boasts good density and power but will need time to express itself. Finishes with substantial broad, dusty tannins that seem chewier than the last few examples from Gevrey-Chambertin.
Healthy dark red-ruby. Deeply pitched aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, pepper, coffee and earth. Tighter than the last few 2014 samples and also a bit rougher in texture. Boasts sound acidity but the dusty tannins turn a bit dry--even tough--on the chewy finish.
