Score 93/100 · Drink 2019-2026, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2018

One of the most distinctive wines in this range, the 2016 Pinot Noir Signal Ridge Vineyard captures the phenolic intensity of this site planted at 2,800 feet in altitude. Crushed rocks, smoke, slate, iron and bright red-toned fruit all develop in the glass, but it is the wine's structural feel and intense minerality that stand out most. The 100% whole clusters are less evident here than in many of the other wines.

Light crimson with a bluer tone that the Kutch Sonoma Coast 2016 Pinots. Really quite broad, ample and floral on the nose for a Kutch 2016. Hint of forest floor. Then some sweet and sour character. Not especially generous on the palate but the balance is there. And so is the acidity – quite in evidence at the moment! (JR)
