Score 91/100 · Drink 2019-2026, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2018

The 2014 Barolo Fossati is a terrific debut from Cesare Bussolo, who has worked alongside Roberto Voerzio for a number of years. Delicate and beautifully persistent on the palate, the 2014 is a very pretty midweight Barolo. Sweet red cherry, orange peel, mint and white pepper give the 2014 its distinctive aromatic top notes. Because 2014 is the first vintage, there is a bit more new oak in the wine than might have otherwise been ideal. Even so, that is a relatively small critique. It will be interesting to see where Bussolo takes his Barolo Fossati in more normal vintages. This is an impressive debut.
