Pale ruby. Good life and zest. There's more than a hint of autumn leaves on the nose. Fresh, open and lots of fruit with fine tannins underneath. There is considerably more to come so it should be worth waiting for. (JR)

The 2012 Echezeaux Grand Cru comes from Millot’s 0.97-hectare parcel in the lieu-dit of Les Poulailleres. It has a pretty, crisp, stony bouquet with a touch of smoke and sous-bois. The palate is natural and traditional in style, understated vis-a-vis its peers with a touch of bell pepper toward the harmonious finish. Fine. Drink 2016-2028. Jean-Marc Millot is a comparatively recent addition to the Vosne-Romanee scene. Though he has been making wine since the 1980s, it was only in 1992 that Jean-Marc began bottling himself and he now has a new winemaking facility in Nuits-Saint-Georges. I found a lot to enjoy in the four 2012s that I tasted, but came away thinking that this could be a name to watch over the next decade. The wines are clean and fresh, faithful to their respective terroirs and charming. Importers: various importers including Winebow, Marathon Selections and Frederick Wildman Selections. Also through Berry Brothers & Rudd in the UK.

Understated nose and a bit too light on the palate to really convince. What’s there is very charming – sweet spice, ripe cherry, a bit of leafiness – I’m just not sure there’s enough of it as you might reasonably expect. (RH)

Bit simple. Much less exciting relatively than the Côte de Nuits-Villages! (JR)
