2011 was Neil McCallum's last vintage. 2012 was transition and winemaker Wilco Lam made a few changes with this vintage. Wanted to steer away from high extraction, wanted to extend fermentation time. Picked relatively early. 3 5% whole bunch. Aged for 12 months in French oak puncheons (20% new), similar to more recent vintages. Bright mid crimson. Vital, pretty fruit with real direction and raciness. Extremely fine tannin. But perhaps not the longest-lasting palate. (JR)

pH 3.35, TA 6.4 g/l . Heralded as vintage of the century – the first drought year. Deep crimson. Lovely scent and tertiary aromas at last! Juicy fruit and still a vein of austerity but overall very impressive. Dry finish. (JR)
Pale-mid ruby-purple. Spicy, earthy tones to ripe red and black cherry. Some stony minerality, with cinnamon and clove oak. Precise, with bright acidity, fine tannins and an earthy, spicy savouriness. Long. (TJ)
