Tasting notes
The 2012 Barbaresco Riserva Currà represents the very first edition of this new wine. The Riserva should be hitting the market now. This vintage reminds me of 2015, thanks to the dark exuberance of the fruit and the soft textural richness of the mouthfeel. Both 2012 and 2015 are warm vintages in the Barbaresco region. But this wine is further along its evolutionary track, and you can recognize those budding aromas of licorice, tar and campfire ash as a result. The elegant finish offers smoky flavors and silky, integrated tannins. Bruno Rocca and his family are focused on Nebbiolo. Some 70% of their production is based on the mighty Piedmont grape.

Tingle and depth. Really lively and complex. Rich fruit followed by acidity and tannin. May be just a little too sweet? (JR)
The 2012 Barbaresco Riserva Currà is a real knockout. Intense, sweet and beautifully perfumed, the 2012 offers a super-classic expression of this Neive vineyard. Twenty four months in oak have helped soften some of the angular contours the 2012 had when it was younger. Hints of orange peel, white pepper, dried herbs and cherries linger on the exotic, beguiling finish. What a gorgeous wine this is. The 2012 spent 22 months in cask. To be released in 2017.
The 2012 Barbaresco Riserva Currà opens with exquisite, high-toned aromatics. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet red berries and spices are woven together in a hugely appealing fabric of pure sensual pleasure. The 2012 Currà stands out for its exceptional polish and nuance. Barbarescos from this Neive site are often austere. While there are certainly elements of that here, this is about as good as it gets from this vineyard. Today, the 2012 Currà is just as thrilling as it was when I tasted it from barrel last year. The 2012 spent 22 months in cask. If this is indicative of the direction Bruno Rocca is headed, the future appears to be in very good hands.
