Pulling the cork on the 2010 Condrieu Chéry at age thirteen evidences that this wine can benefit from extended bottle-aging. What I love about André Perret’s Condrieu Chéry is that it’s usually neither fat nor heavy. On the contrary, it can exude wonderful freshness and agility. Fragrant rose water, crushed jasmine, dried peach and apricot and discrete cedar elements are captured in this medium-bodied white.

Not surprisingly (given this high quality vintage in Condrieu), the three 2010 Condrieus are all spectacular. Even more minerality and floral notes can be found in the 2010 Condrieu Chery. Sumptuous and rich, with abundant aromas of wet rocks, honeysuckle, lychee nuts, peaches, apricots and tangerine oil, this is a sensational Condrieu. I had it twice at Parisian restaurants after I had officially tasted it the week before, and it is unquestionably a stunning white wine. Perret has long been one of the northern Rhone's finest producers of white wines, and over the last decade he has also raised the quality of his red wines as evidenced by these two vintages of St.-Joseph. Much more minerally than the regular blend. Should have a long life. Very tense and exciting but still too young. (JR)
