2015 Missatge en una Ampolla

The wine called 'message in a bottle' in Catalan language from Amós Bañeres, the 2015 Missatge en una Ampolla, is pure Macabeo from an organically-farmed vineyard planted by the grandfather of the current owner in 1989-1990 on limestone-rich soils. The destemmed grapes were pressed and the must let to settle, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for six months with 5% skins and stems without being racked. It was bottled without any added sulphur, without being stabilized, fined or filtered. The wine has a slightly copper/grey color and a nose of baked apple pie and quince paste with something earthy thrown in for complexity. The palate is fresh and with pungent flavors. This is very pleasant, quite marked by the process, a process that has better results in high acidity whites than in reds. 2,235 bottles were filled in February 2016.
