Just 284 cases. Savoury nose. Very distinctive. Mouth-filling and broad. Very mellow with good tannin management. (JR)

The 2009 Tamboerskloof Spicer Syrah is rather dominated by the French oak (75% new) on the nose at the detriment of the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with smoky, meaty black fruit and a rather reduced finish that feels too generic, especially at this price. A shame, since there is attractive fruit here, but it cannot be heard underneath the winemaking.
