Tasting notes
A firm, unyielding wine for the vintage, Poggio Salvi's 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva offers up sweet red cherries, licorice, tobacco and mint, all supported by massive, powerful tannins. If the wine softens it may merit a higher score, but my fear is the fruit will dry out before that happens.

Mature-looking mid ruby with broad orange-tinged rim. Slightly nutty and tertiary on the nose and very slow for the fruit to emerge. Same reluctance on the palate, but linear and well structured with a good dose of acidity and powdery tannin. Very long and not heavy at all. A little closed for now, so hold on to this. (WS)
