Score 93/100 · Drink 2016-2021, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Oct 2016

The 2015 Cargol Treu Vi is pure Xarello from a 0.78 hectare old vineyard with pure chalk soils on top of the Garraf zone of Penedès. The wine achieved 12.1% alcohol and here they search for a fresh, direct and complex but not exuberant wine that shows finesse. 2015 was a dry and warm vintage and the harvest was relatively early. The grapes were pressed in a vertical press, the juice let to settle and then ferment with indigenous yeasts in 700-liter oak barrels for two months without racking. The wine matured in 300-liter barriques for ten months. This is a lot more serious, complex and subtle, a little more closed at first, slowly developing nuances of white fruit, flowers and fine spices. The soils here are pure limestone with abundant sea fossils, which provide great finesse, a straight wine, with superbly integrated oak. The palate shows great minerality, a chalky sensation and a tasty, almost salty finish. There's great balance and finesse, elegance and persistence. Not as explosive or showy as the Principia Mathematica. A triumph over the conditions of the vintage. 1,500 bottles were filled in July 2016.
