Tasting notes
(just two new barrels of this juice): Bright dark red. Very backward nose hints at medicinal dark cherry, licorice and spices. Densely packed and supple but youthfully unforthcoming today, with very dark fruit flavors complicated by salty minerality. At once intense and subtle. Finishes vibrant, very youthful and impressively long, with a fine dusting of tannins and terrific verve and lift.

Violets, new leather, cloves, plums, tar and licorice all jump from the glass in the 2012 Chambertin Clos de Bèze. Today the personality of the vintage and the house style seem to dominate over site. Red cherry pit, stone fruits and new leather are some of the many notes that come alive as the wine blossoms through to the huge, resonant finish. I am curious to see what effect more time in barrel has for the Bèze.

Based in Meursault and farming some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, Henri Boillot is a leading address in Burgundy. He crafts fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but the estate is best known for its flagship monopole vineyard, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos de la Mouchère.
