2013 La Mujer Canon

The super elegant and fresh 2013 La Mujer Cañón is sourced from a north-facing vineyard planted in 1933 (one of the few vineyards where the date is known) on very fine, sandy soils, with quite a lot of white granite -- one hectare of vines at some 900 meters altitude. The grapes were harvested quite late, on October 14, as the weather changed in mid-September to much cooler after a little bit of rain. The result was that 2013 was a shorter vintage and some grapes were declassified. It's all finesse and minerality, with aromas reminiscent of wet stones. It has an herbal twist (think raspberry leaf) nicely intermixed with the wild berries and some exotic spices. This vintage does not have the funkiness of the 2012, this is a lot subtler, more elegant and with subdued minerality, fresher, more precise, with great length and with a tasty, almost salty finish. This wine has something really special. 1,300 bottles were produced.
