Tasting notes
Checking in as 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2016 Château Herve Laroque is a terrific Fronsac with loads of savory herbs and meaty, truffly, earthy notes as well as ample fruit in its medium to full-bodied profile. With sweet tannins and a plump, rounded, sexy personality that’s already a joy to drink, it should keep nicely for upwards of a decade.

This delivers a swathe of ripe dark berries and plums with a very plush, succulent palate that carries great depth and freshness. The length here is impressive. A blend of 80 per cent merlot, 15 per cent cabernet franc and five per cent cabernet sauvignon. Try from 2022.
The 2016 Hervé-Laroque is laced with sweet tobacco, cedar, dried herb and earthy notes that add lovely aromatic top notes to a core of sweet red berry fruit. Drink it over the next handful of years. Hervé-Laroque is a bit less forthcoming and supple than many Fronsacs in this vintage, but it has so much to offer. Tasted two times.
The 2016 Herve-Laroque is a juicy straightforward Fronsac to drink now and over the next few years. Sweet tobacco and floral notes add nuance in this soft-spoken, attractive wine.
