Score 94/100 · Drink 2019-2040, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Aug 2018

This is just a terrific wine that shows classic lines with bright fruit intensity that should remain intact for years to come. The 2013 Barolo Cannubi is an age-worthy interpretation with wild berry fruit, grilled herb, licorice and dark spice. The ensemble is elegant and compact with potential to gain in volume and length. There is steady firmness here spread over finely textured tannins.

The 2013 Barolo Cannubi brings together the sweet, floral aromatics that are so typical of this site, with silky tannins and vibrant fruit. Sweet red cherry, wild flowers, mint and rose petals built into the finely-spun finish. Sensual and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2013 Cannubi is a highly appealing wine to drink now and over the next decade, perhaps beyond. The Cannubi also gives the distinct impression it will drink well earlier than the Costa Grimaldi.

Barolo. Tasted blind. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Very closed and leafy/herbal on the nose. Closed and reluctant on the palate too, but fine cherry fruit, rolled in powdery tannins, comes out on the finish. Still a little austere, yet complex. (WS)

Barolo. Just mid ruby. Sweet cherry and spice nose with a hint of garden herbs and liquorice. Plenty of mouth-filling, grainy tannins and with shy fruit. It's an elegant whole, but the structure is quite massive for the shy fruit at least for now. (WS)
