Score 90/100 · James Suckling, Jan 2019

Shows blackcurrant, hot-stone and dried-sage aromas and flavors. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a delicious finish. A blend of petit verdot and merlot. Better in 2021, when it comes a little more together.

The 2016 Lousteauneuf has a pretty bouquet with violet-tinged blackberry and raspberry fruit, the oak well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin, lightly spiced black fruit with quite a savoury finish with a rather unwanted smear of dark chocolate and espresso. There is a good wine here aching to get out. Time will tell. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 14% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc. Deep crimson. Ripe and lightly spiced on the nose. Pretty dry and grippy on the palate. Tough but probably OK with a chunk of meat. Drying on its own. (JH)
