The 2016 Beauregard was one of the surprise hits of the Southwold blind tasting. Here it has a more low-key nose, black fruit mixed with leather and sage, clean and pure fruit with impressive delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins, a deft touch of white pepper and fine grip, a little more primal than its peers. Maybe it needs just a touch more complexity on the finish; otherwise, great potential. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

The 2016 Beauregard is bestowed with intense black cherry and boysenberry fruit, melted tar and graphite notes coming through with aeration and becoming quite high-toned. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Fleshy but not deep, featuring nicely judged acidity, although the finish is straightforward and needs a little more personality to develop. It may have just shut down temporarily. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Animal fur on the nose – it’s been some time since I have smelt this! Black-cherry essence. Wouldn’t mind a bit more freshness. Greenness on the end. (JR)
